How long have you been skateboarding?
My grandmother got me my first skate board, if you can believe it. She got me a Hobie longboard when I was in high school. After that I started making little skateboards out of my parents’ old oak cabinets. I made “sidewalk surfers” for myself and my friends so we could skate to class and down at the beach in between parties.
What do you love most about it? I love the camaraderie and how anyone, anywhere pretty much has access to it. It makes the whole culture so diverse and interesting. You never know who you’re going to meet skating. Lots of the time it’s people you wouldn’t have expected you’d have much in common with.
What’s your favorite local skate park?
Prince and Linda Vista
What or who is a constant source of inspiration for you? Why?
The ocean, which sounds way cliche, but is unavoidably true. My husband, my kids, my family and my friends. My dad surfs too and we surf together almost once a week.
What is a great book that you have read recently?
Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff and Where the Crawdad’s Sing.
If you could time travel, where and when would you go?
An obvious answer for me is the early 1900s California before a bunch of people surfed and the coast wasn’t as polluted or crowded, but the real truth is I’d probably rather hang out in the time we’re in now. It’s rough around the edges, but we’ve got some good stuff going on too.
Thanks, Devon! So fun learning more about you and thank you for all the ways you add your energy and kindness to others. We love having you as a part of the Kateboards community.
